NATIONAL
SERVICE SCHEME- NSS
National Service Scheme is a movement which aims at
the physical, mental and spiritual development of young
students. It cultivates a sense of duty, co-operation,
and self help in the students. The NSS helps in moulding
the youth of tomorrow in such a way that they become
active participants in nation-building efforts at different
levels. NSS in the college is playing an active role
in developing the personality of students through community
service. Its motto is “Not me, but you”.
This expresses the essence of democratic living and
upholds the need for selfless service and appreciation
for others point of view. It instills a sense of consideration
for fellow human beings and the welfare of society as
a whole.
There are three units of the N.S.S in the college. The
N.S.S in the college has a very bright track record.
The college got many awards and recognitions because
of the achievements of the National Service Scheme:
National award to the best volunteers, State award to
the best programme officers, award for the promotion
of Voluntary blood donation from the Red-Cross, Thermo
Penpal and The Govt. of Kerala Volunteers and Programme
Officers have attended many national integration camps,
state camps and youth camps at the university level.
The programme officers are:
Sri C S Ajikumar (Physics)
Sri A Shaji (History) and
Dr S Laiju (Psychology)
The most noteworthy programme of this year was the completion
of N.S.S Bhavan. More than 150 volunteers participated
in various programmes organised by the University, Government
and other N.G.Os.
Volunteers numbering 160 donated blood in various hospitals
for the needy patients from other districts who have
no friends or relatives here.
The N.S.S units observed the International Blood Donor’s
Day National Blood Donation Day World AIDS Day etc with
many innovative programmes.
NATIONAL CADET CORPS- NCC
NCC training is provided to all able-bodied students
of this college. It aims at instilling in the students
a spirit of discipline and a willingness to serve the
country in war and peace. There are men and women units
of the NCC, functioning in the college. They are Kerala
battalion NCC boys wing(3) and Kerala battalion NCC
girls’ wing(1). Besides the regular parades, adventure
activities like cycle expedition, trekking etc. are
also undertaken. Certificates are awarded to cadets
who attend various training camps, which include national
integration camp, military attachment camp, basic leadership
camp and annual training camp.
Examinations are held for the cadets and successful
cadets are awarded ‘B’ certificate and ‘C’
certificate on merit and experience. These certificate
holders are eligible, based on their grades, for admission
to higher classes as well as for getting preference
for appoinment to various defence establishments. Uniforms
as well as refreshments are supplied free of cost to
the participating cadets. N.C.C. Kits are issued to
the cadets which are obtained from the NCC offices of
the units. The teachers serving as NCC officers are
Major Dr. S.Sethu Lekshmi (History) and Capt.S.S.Biju
(Physical Education).
EXTENSION SERVICES
Sree Narayana College has the credit of being the first
Arts and Science College in Thiruvananthapuram providing
extension services for the betterment of the society
at large. This year we had conducted

An in house training programme for students studying
in the Vocational Higher Secondary Schools.
• Seven schools were selected in phase
one and classes were taken in Chemistry, Geology and
Psychology.
• Individual counseling for the students
were provided by the department of psychology.
• Psychological evaluation and management
was given to Sree Narayana Higher Secondary School,
Chempazhanthy.
• Staff training for better inter
personal relationships was conducted in Hindustan Latex
Limited.
CLUBS
AND STUDY CENTRES
To harness the latent energies and aesthetic inclination
of young men and women for a strife free, rich and meaningful
campus life, a variety of clubs have been constituted.
The clubs play a seminal role in channelising youthful
exuberance and talent into vistas of creativity beneficial
to society at large. Every student has the choice of
joining a club of his/her taste. Each club functions
under the stewardship of a convener and a committee
of three or more teachers. Aims and Objectives of the
Clubs are:-
a) Literary and Debating Club
Literary and Debating Club helps to develop the communication
skills and the literary inclinations of the students.Propagate
the philosophy of the great saint and social reformer,
Sree Narayana Guru.
b) Human Rights Forum
Human Rights Forum helps the students and members of
the staff to build an awareness of their rights as human
beings residing in a civilized society.
c) Career Guidance and Placement Cell
The Career Guidance and placement cell is intended to
guide students and inform them of the various avenues
of employment available, according to their abilitites,
qualification and aptitude.
d) Cultural Club
The Cultural club, under a General Convenor, co-ordinates
the activities of various clubs like Theatre club, Music
club, Dance Club.It creates an atmosphere condusive
to the development of cultural and artistic capabilities.The
list of clubs under the cultural club is given below
a) Theatre Club:-
Theatre club develops, polishes and fine-tunes the histrionic
abilities of the students.
b) Dance Club:-
By selected talented students ,Dance club organises
dance troupes consisting both male and female students.It
imparts training in both classical and modern dance
forms.
c) Music Club:-
Music club trains students in classical and other forms
musical rendition.
d) Media Club:-
Media is a powerful instrumennt with immence potential
for educating and enlightening society.
e) Environment Club:-
The Environment Club instills in students a reverance
for the environment. It enlightens the students against
environmental pollution, dangers involved in the over
use of plastic. etc.
f) Sree Narayana Study Centre
Sree Narayana Study centre endeavours to study and Narayana
Guru.
g) National Literacy Mission
National Literacy Mission has as its objectives, the
spread of literacy among all groups.
h) Science Club
Science Club aims at creating a scientific temperament
and out look in all categories of students.
i) Planning Forum
Planning Forum teaches the students the rudiments and
importance of planning in all walks of life.
j) Drug Surveillance and Counselling Centre
A Drug Surveillance and counselling unit functions as
a wing of N.S.S of this college. This unit creates a
public awareness against the use of drugs and alcohol.
k) Women Study Centre
The problem specific to women, their rights and privilages
the necessity for protecting and safe-guarding the same
are taught to the students by the club.
l) Book Club
Book club aims at creating a love for books and developing
the habit of reading among the students.
m) Health/Sports Club
Sports Club aims at physical development, athletic talent
and sportsmanship of its member.
n) Libraray Co-ordinating Committee
The Libraray Co-ordinating Committee formulates plans
for library development.
o) Computer Literacy and Internet Club
Computer Literacy Programme aims at popularising computer
literacy among the students. Internet Club aims at providing
internet access to members of the staff and students
to help them to keep abreast of the latest developments
in the field of knowledge and information.
p) Medical Aid centre
Medical Aid centre provides timely first aid to sick
students and members of the staff.
q) Academic Committee
An Academic Committee actively functions in the college
to internalise and institutionalise excellence in all
disciplines. The committee consists of the Principal
as Chairman, a teacher-convener, elected representatives
of the teaching staff to the College Council and the
Heads of Departments. The Academic Committee prepares
the academic calendar and supervises the day-to-day
academic functions of the college. It plans and executes
seminars, interactive sessions, lectures, model examinations,
mock viva etc. It also monitors termwise completion
of syllabus in every discipline.
The following teachers are nominated as convenors of
the various clubs which have been constituted for the
academic year 2004- 2005. The Principal shall be the
chairman of the clubs.

EXCURSIONS, PICNICS AND STUDY TOURS
1. Students are not permitted to organise or conduct
excursions, or picnics without knowledge and consent
of the Principal and Department Heads.
2. Study tours will be organised by respective Departments.
3. Only final year students will be permitited to
go on excursions and tours.
4. Written consent in the prescribed form should be
obtained from the guardians by all students going
on excursion.
5. A detailed programme of travel, stay, places of
visit, names of participants etc, should be submitted
to the Principal before proceeding on a tour/excursion.
6. No student from another class will be permitted
to join a class going on excursion.
7. There should be a minimum of two teachers (one
male and one female) to accompany each team.
8. Excursions, Picnics and Tours will be allowed only
during the third term of the academic year.
ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION
The college has an athletic association in order to
promote physical educational activities of the college.
All students of the college are the members of the
association. The executive committee shall consists
of :
