The department started BSc Chemistry course in 1968 and the Post Graduate course in 1998.There are 10 faculty members in the department. Five of them possess Ph D degree and others possess M Phil degree. Two members are currently pursuing their Ph D under FIP of UGC. One member is doing part time research. Four minor research projects have been sanctioned by UGC in favour of four faculty members in the department under X th plan period. One member is an approved research guide of the University of Kerala. The department has been contributing to the growth of several eminent scholars and scientists in the field of Chemistry. Collaboration exists in the field of research with Central Crops Research Institute and Regional laboratory, Trivandrum. Department of Chemistry has been identified by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, for the financial support under FIST program to strengthen the Post Graduate Teaching and Research facilities. A sum of Rs 43.6 lakhs is sanctioned by the Ministry of Science and Technology for the implementation of the Project.
